The Five Stages of Grief: Nursing Student’s Edition

Having trouble remembering the Kübler–Ross model for the five stages of grief? Look no further than your own experiences in nursing school!

Stage 1: Denial

There is NO WAY my teacher to expects me to write care plans for all 6 of my patients by tomorrow.

Stage 2: Anger

WHAT KIND OF HORRIBLE PERSON EXPECTS SOMEONE TO WRITE A CARE PLAN FOR ALL 6 OF THEIR PATIENTS BY TOMORROW?

Stage 3: Bargaining

Ok, maybe if I explain to her that my patients have an average age of 98 and all of them are on at least 50 meds she’ll take pity? Or… cookies. Everyone loves cookies, right?

Stage 4: Depression

I can’t believe I’m going to be wasting my valuable sleep time tonight writing down the side effects of Ditropan…and Metformin…and Procardia….and basically every other drug ever created. Why didn’t I just choose a career at the Gap?

Stage 5: Acceptance

Ok, no sense in complaining- it’s just another hoop to jump through on the way to getting my degree. Time to start chugging the Starbucks and get to it!
