Question 21 - Reading: Level E Practice Test for the TABE Test

According to the passage provided, trees are cut down for all of the following reasons except ____.

Saving Our Forests

A forest is a large area filled with many trees. When people cut down or burn these trees to use the land for something else, it is called deforestation.

People cut down trees for many reasons. Most of the time, they need the land to start big farms. They grow crops like coffee or beans. They also use the land for cows to eat grass. Sometimes, people cut down trees to build new houses and roads.

Losing forests causes many problems. Trees are the homes, or habitats, for many animals and plants. When the trees are gone, the animals have nowhere to live. This can make some animals disappear forever.

Trees also help our planet stay healthy. They help clean the air we breathe. They even help keep the Earth from getting too hot. Today, we are trying to cut down fewer trees so we can protect our world. The Amazon rainforest in South America is one forest facing the harmful effects of deforestation.
