As \(x\) approaches \(90^\circ\), \(tan(x)\) gets very much larger, growing without bound. For example, \(tan89^\circ \approx 57.2\), \(\ \ tan89.9^\circ \approx 572.9\), and \(tan89.99^\circ \approx 5729.5\). To indicate that it is increasing without bound, we write the positive infinity sign.
