Active voice sentences have the subject actively doing the verb, regardless of the time in which it was done (past, present, or future). Passive voice means that the subject does not actively do the verb, but instead receives the action of the verb, which is done by someone or something else. “Stacy burned the cookies.”—active voice. “The cookies were burned by Stacy.”—passive voice
