Flashcard 7 - Upper Level: Quantitative Reasoning Flashcard Set for the ISEE

Back

The following formulas will be used:

volume of cylinder = \(\pi(r^2)h\)

volume of a rectangular prism = \(l \cdot w \cdot h\)

Explanation:

Capacity is the same as volume. A tank with a circular base is a cylinder. The volume for a cylinder is simply the product of the circle and the height of the tank.

Solving for the capacity of a tank with a rectangular base is the same as solving for the volume of a box. Its volume is:

\[V = length \cdot width \cdot height\]
