Hydroplaning is the effect of water lifting a moving vehicle off of a road surface. It can result in loss of vehicle control.

Driving through water at high speeds will overcome the tire tread’s ability to push water away that results in the vehicle “floating” on water. The loss of contact with the road prevents control of the vehicle.
