Explanation:
A tension pneumothorax is a life-threatening condition in which trapped air continues to build pressure inside the chest, collapsing the affected lung and shifting mediastinal structures. Patients may present with severe respiratory distress, absent breath sounds on one side, hypotension, and jugular venous distention.
