Find a Test Date That Works for You!
(This article revised on April 22, 2020.)
If you’re planning to take the ACT® test during the 2019–2020 school year, you know you can’t just show up with a pencil on test day. You’ll have to do a bit of planning, with calendar in hand. We’ve put together not only the actual test dates, but also the registration deadline for each one and some other useful information. You can miss the first registration date, but that means paying a fee for late registration. And with all of the college application fees and other expenses, you’ll probably want to avoid that.
So, here we go! Check your schedule and find out which of these dates work for you.
Taking the ACT® Test In the U.S.
If you’re in the U.S., here’s your calendar of possible ACT® test dates:
This includes U.S. territories and Puerto Rico.
*Note: No ACT® exam is given in NY on the July test date listed here.

Keep in mind that, if this is your first go-around, you may need to think about taking it early so you’ll have time to try again, later in the year. Also know that there are provisions for non-Saturday test dates if you have that need because of religious beliefs.
Also, you need to start thinking about materials you’ll need for registration and make arrangements to gather them, so here’s a heads-up. You’ll need these things:
- About 30–40 minutes of your time
- Internet-accessible computer
- Credit card for payment
- Record of high school classes and your grades in them
- Your high school’s code (can be looked up through the link below)
- A clear picture of yourself (headshot, only)
If you have any other questions about registration, this link should answer all of them.
