**distance** = $$\sqrt{(x_2-x_1 )^2 + (y_2-y_1 )^2}$$, where $$(x_1,y_1 ),(x_2,y_2)$$ are 2 points   
    
Notice the similarity between this and the Pythagorean theorem: $$c^2 = a^2 + b^2$$   
    
**midpoint** =  $$\left(\frac{(x_1+x_2)}{2},\frac{(y_1+y_2)}{2}\right)$$   
   
Notice that this is the average of the 2 *x* values and the average of the 2 *y* values
