Probability is the ratio of a successful event to the total number of events.
Probabilities involving and use multiplication, and those involving or involve addition.

Examples:

The probability of rolling a 2 and then a 3 in consecutive rolls of a 6 sided die \(= \frac{1}{6} \cdot \frac{1}{6}\)

Probability of rolling a 2 or a 3 \(=\frac{1}{6} + \frac{1}{6}\).
