Explanation:
We can perform four different types of transformations on figures in a plane:

Dilation preserves the angles but changes the length of the sides by a constant multiplier, which may be a whole number or a fraction. This either enlarges or shrinks the figure.

Translation moves a figure from one place to another.

Rotation turns a figure about a fixed point.

Reflection flips a figure about a certain line.
Hence, a transformation that enlarges or shrinks a figure is known as dilation.
