Flashcard 6 - Math Flashcard Set for the TEAS

Back

When a negative sign is introduced to both sides and when the sides of the inequality are swapped.

Explanation:

See how \(x\) is solved in this example and how the inequality sign reverses,

\[-2x \lt 10\]

The sign reverses when a negative value is introduced:

\[\left(-\frac{1}{2}\right)\cdot (-2x) \gt 10 \cdot \left(-\frac{1}{2}\right)\] \[x \gt -5\]

And also when the sides are swapped:

\[-5 \lt x\]
