hyperbole
Hyperbole is an extreme exaggeration used to make a point or show emphasis. It is not meant to be taken literally, as it is figurative language. An example of hyperbole might be something like “He’ll date anything with a pulse.” While not literally true, the exaggeration suggests he isn’t picky when it comes to asking people out on a date and may, in fact, be somewhat desperate.
