The patient lies on the left side with the left leg straight and right hip and knee bent; the chest and abdomen relax forward to elevate the buttocks.

Also known as left lateral, this position is used for examination and treatment of the rectum and/or perineum. It may also be used to examine the prostate in men if the knee-chest position is not tolerable.
