Flashcard 10 - Geometry Flashcard Set for the Math Basics

Back

\[V_\text{pyramid}=\frac{1}{3}Bh\]

Explanation:

Remember, \(B=\) the area of the base and \(h=\) the height.

You can actually try this if you want to see the formula in action: make a hollow square pyramid and a hollow square prism with the same base and height. Fill the pyramid with rice or water. Dump it into the prism and repeat. You’ll see that three pyramids will fill the prism. Thus, the volume of the pyramid is exactly \(\frac{1}{3}\) the volume of the prism.
