The percent of change proportion:

If the problem involves tip, tax, or other percentage increase problems you might use the variation:

\[\dfrac{\text{increase}}{\text{original}} = \dfrac{\text{percent of increase}}{100}\]

If the problem involves sales, discounts, or other percentage decrease problems, you might use the variation:

\[\dfrac{\text{decrease}}{\text{original}} = \dfrac{\text{percent of decrease}}{100}\]
