Given two points on the line, \((x_1,\;y_1)\) and \((x_2,\;y_2)\), then

\[\text{slope}=\dfrac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}\]

If a question asks for the rate, you should find the slope (which is the rate). Another way is to look at the graph and find the ratio:

\[\text{slope}=\dfrac{\text{rise}}{\text{run}}\]
