Social Studies

Social Studies questions occupy about 25% of the GACE Elementary Education test. You will also be asked to identify educational practices that are optimal for teaching students in these areas. The following questions should give you an idea of how prepared you are for this section of the test. Our free flashcards and study guide should help, as well.

The Arts, Health, and Wellness

What to Bring

The only thing you must bring to the testing center is a valid, government-issued ID.

What Not to Bring

Nearly everything besides your ID is prohibited during GACE testing. Here you will find a full list of materials that are not allowed under “Testing Policies.”

Best Ways to Study for the GACE

Take GACE Practice Tests

To gauge your testing readiness, be sure to attempt practice questions specifically formulated for the GACE. Doing so will also help you know in which areas more review is required.

Use Alternative Study Methods

Consulting GACE study guides and employing such tools as flashcards will give you a varied study experience. Joining a study group can also be beneficial as you can bounce ideas off of others preparing for the same test, thus deepening your own knowledge base.

Simulate the Testing Experience

As you take GACE practice tests, be sure to time your attempts so you’ll have an idea of how much time you’ll have for each question during the real test.

GACE Tips and Tricks

Answer the Questions You Know First

As with most timed exams, you may perform better if you answer the questions that come easy to you first, then go back and answer the rest. The easier ones will take less time, allowing you more time to go back and re-read the ones that are harder to answer. This method maximizes your use of time.

Don’t Let Anxiety Get the Best of You

Taking the GACE exam can be incredibly stressful. Your ability to pursue your chosen professional path is dependent upon achieving a passing score. With so much on the line, it can be easy to let anxiety overwhelm you. However, if you’ve been studying and are prepared, it’s important to remind yourself that you are ready to ace this exam.

The GACE is a long test, so if you feel anxiety starting to set in, take a few deep breaths and clear your mind. Then you can come back to the questions and focus on the content more effectively.

Start Studying Early

While it may be tempting to think that you can cram in the days leading up to the exam, the reality is that this method won’t provide optimal results for the majority of individuals. The GACE is a comprehensive exam that covers a wide range of subjects. To ensure you get the best results possible, it’s a good idea to start studying weeks, or even months, before your testing date.

GACE FAQ:

1. How much does it cost to take the GACE?

If you take all five parts (testlets) of the GACE at one time, the fee is $169. Alternatively, taking the parts separately costs $34 per testlet.

2. What score do I need to pass the GACE?

A total score of 220 is required to pass the GACE Elementary Education test, but you must also have a certain minimum score on each of the testlets. This is called a “floor” score and it only indicates that you have some knowledge in that field of study.

It is possible to achieve the floor score on each testlet without meeting the 220 total passing requirement. In that case, it would be necessary to retake one or more of the testlets for the purpose of increasing your total score.

3. Can I retake the GACE?

Yes, after a 30-day waiting period, you may register, pay for, and retake all or part of the GACE.

4. When will I receive my test results?

Upon test completion, you will receive the date your scores will be accessible through your GACE account. This is usually within one month after your test date.
