What you need to know about the CompTIA Security+
The CompTIA Security+ SYO-701 exam was introduced in November 2023 and replaces the CompTIA Security+ SYO-601 exam completely as of July 31, 2024. There are many questions that begin with a scenario in which you’ll need to apply your security knowledge to solve problems. The questions are all multiple choice, with some added performance-based questions in which you’ll use technological tools to indicate the answer.

What are the costs?
It costs $404.00 to purchase the voucher for the CompTIA Security+ SYO-701 exam. There is an option posted on the CompTIA website to make payments over time.
What should I bring?
The best way to be sure you have all the necessary materials is to contact your testing center prior to test day. In general, however, you will need up to two forms of ID and copies of any emails you have received, including your testing voucher. There will probably not be any study materials or personal items allowed in the testing area.
How is it scored?
Scores on the CompTIA Security+ SYO-701 range from 100 to 900, and a score of 750 is considered to be passing.
What kind of job can I get?
Armed with CompTIA Security+ SYO-701 certification, you will be fluent in baseline security skills and able to problem solve in real-life security situations. These skills and knowledge, including all the latest terms, trends, and techniques, will enable you to serve at an early career security level in such positions as network security analyst, penetration tester, and security architect.
Am I eligible?
It is recommended that you have CompTIA Network+ certification, plus two years of experience in IT administration with a strong background in security, including a wide knowledge of security concepts. You should also have had hands-on experience with the security of technical information.
A CompTIA Security+ certification is valid for three years, after which it must be renewed to stay in force. There are now continuing education pathways available to complete this renewal.

Possessing a CompTIA Security+ certification shows prospective employers that you have the skills and knowledge to tackle early career-level security positions.
What salary can I expect?
Salaries for positions involving security can average around $119,000 annually, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
When is it available?
The CompTIA Security+ exam is administered by Pearson Vue, which provides both a testing center experience and online testing.
How much time is allowed?
The newest exam version (SYO-701) contains a maximum of 90 questions, and you are allowed 90 minutes to complete all of them.
