5 Ways to be More Active as a Truck Driver

Being a truck driver is awesome, but sitting all day can cause you to have a slower metabolism, and it also increases your risk for high blood pressure and diseases like diabetes. Here are 5 simple ways you can get more active and fight back!

  1. Bring dumbbells with you on the road- They don’t take up a lot of space, and you can use them to work out in your cab or at a stop.

  2. Walk (or run) around- There are lots of rest areas that have trails or parks, so when you stop take a quick walk or jog to get your heart rate up.

  3. Use your truck as gym equipment- Workout your triceps by facing away from and placing your hands on your tires, extending your legs out, and then lowering your body down and pulling it back up.

  4. Take advantage of your cab- Squats, jumping-jacks, and sit-ups all require zero equipment and can be done in the privacy of your cab. No one’s going to see you if you’re afraid of looking silly, so get to it!

  5. Stretch- Before and after you drive. Sitting also puts you at increased risk for blood clots, so pump your calves every now and again to keep the blood flowing when you can’t get up and move.
