Any time you park, you should use the parking brake unless the brakes are very hot due to hard braking or they are wet in freezing temperatures.

In these cases use wheel chocks to prevent the vehicle from moving while the brakes cool down. If wet, dry them out by applying the brakes lightly while driving slowly in low gear.
