In the United States, the Selective Service System is the agency that keeps a list of names of men who could be called to serve in the military if there were a national emergency (a “draft”).
While the U.S. currently has an all-volunteer military and hasn’t had a draft since 1973, registration is still a legal requirement for almost all male citizens and immigrants.
