containment

The policy of containment was the attempt to stop the spread of communism and keep it contained to the Soviet Union. The U.S. feared that if one country fell to communism, many others would follow. This theory was called the Domino Theory. It was because of this fear and the policy of containment that the U.S. got involved in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
