Isolationism or Neutrality

The U.S. attempted to stay isolated as long as possible and not get involved in the European conflict. Also, many people in the U.S. were immigrants from various European countries so the government wanted to maintain neutrality as long as possible and not anger American citizens by joining one side or the other.
