Topic sentences come at the beginning of a paragraph (usually the first sentence or two), and they express what the topic of the paragraph will be and what the author will be focusing on. Topic sentences are important in writing as they help keep ideas organized. They also come in handy when writing summaries because a reader should be able to summarize a text based on the info provided in the topic sentences.
