Explanation:

The thesis statement is the roadmap for a piece of writing. It gives the reader a sense of what to expect in the rest of the text. As a writer, it is difficult to write an effective thesis statement before first brainstorming about the topic to determine what direction the writing may go in, so the planning stage must happen first. When the drafting begins, the writer begins to see the connections he or she wants to make and can develop a thesis statement from which to expand the rest of the text. The thesis statement is not set in stone, so there may be some modifications made during the revising or editing stages, but the basic format is best written during the drafting stage.
