Unlike revising, which is looking at the big picture, editing requires an examination of the details in the writing. Going line by line through the text, editing means looking at word choice, sentence structure, clarity, and the mechanics of writing in standard conventions of grammar. One way to remember the difference between the two is that when you REvise, you are REviewing the big picture, but when you Edit, you Examine the small details.
