Explanation:

The thesis statement is what anchors the entire text. Everything included in the text should link back to it in some way. Thesis statements keep the writer focused because everything should relate back to the thesis statement, and they help readers stay on track because readers can then anticipate what to expect in the text.

“Author’s position” doesn’t mean that thesis statements are only used in argumentative or persuasive writing; the author can have a “position” that is neutral.
