Insurance typically does not let refills go through more than a few days early. On non-controlled prescriptions, however, a patient is still able to refill them early and pay out of pocket. Early refills on controlled medications, on the other hand, are restricted to one to two days, regardless of how they are paid for, to reduce the risk of misuse and abuse.
