a national drug code or NDC

The NDC is an 11-digit number with three parts: 5-digit labeler, 3- or 4-digit product code, and 2-digit package code.

Note: Some NDC numbers may have 11 digits and some may have only 10 digits, dropping 1 digit in the first or second set of numbers. Many manufacturers and packagers use 10 digits because of a standardized label-printing process.
