Sertraline is in the class of antidepressant drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Sertraline is FDA-approved for the treatment of depression as well as obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Sertraline is an example of a medication that is categorized in one way (antidepressant) but can be used to treat multiple conditions.
