Mixed number to improper fraction: Multiply the whole number and the denominator. Add this product to the numerator. The result becomes the new numerator which you put over the denominator.

Improper fraction to mixed number: Divide the numerator by the denominator to find the whole number. If there is a remainder, this becomes the numerator of the fraction which you place above the denominator.
