Cytoplasm is the thick, gel-like substance that fills the inside of a cell between the cell membrane and the nucleus. It is composed mostly of water, salts, and proteins. The cytoplasm helps maintain the cell’s shape and allows materials like nutrients, waste, and organelles to move around. It also plays a key role in many cellular processes, such as the movement of materials and chemical reactions necessary for life.
