Quadratic equations are also called equations of the second degree, because their highest power is 2. They have variables raised to the second power, or “squared”, thus the prefix “quad.” In standard form, a quadratic is written as: \(ax^2+bx+c=0\), where a, b and c are constants and a is not equal to zero.
