Hopefully, the word convince in this definition didn’t throw you off and cause you to answer “persuasive.” Persuasive writing takes argumentative writing a step further and tries to convince the reader to agree with the claim, not just admit that it has merit. But in its most basic form, argumentative writing just puts forth a claim that perhaps not everyone will agree with and requires the writer to defend and explain it so that the audience will at least consider it, whether they agree with it or not.
