In a passive voice sentence, the subject is being acted upon rather than doing the action itself. In this sentence, the quilt didn’t do the sewing; her great-grandmother did so it is a passive voice sentence. Remember that active or passive voice is not determined by when the action takes place. You can have a passive voice sentence written in present tense (“The Alaskan forests are roamed by bears”) or future tense (“The patio will be cleaned by Anna tomorrow afternoon”) and an active voice sentence can have a past tense verb (“Rhonda ate three desserts after dinner”).
