Critical readers engage in a variety of reading strategies in order to critically read a text. Eventually, many of these strategies become second nature such that you don’t even think about them as you’re doing them. But predicting what a text might be about based on formatting or content clues, annotating as you read by making notes about ideas that catch your attention or places where you challenge the author’s thinking, and writing a summary in your own words about what the text is about are all critical reading strategies that increase comprehension and ensure that you are reading more deeply.
