Although the common teaching has been to never end a sentence in a preposition, language evolves and the rules that govern it also change. As long as the text is informal and omitting the preposition would cause confusion, it can stay. In a formal text, the entire structure of the sentence would need to change to accommodate the preposition elsewhere in the sentence. For example, “As the tide came in, the sandcastles were washed away.”
