time, tempo, and rhythm

These are the three basic elements that beginning dancers need to fully understand if they want to execute choreography.

time—This is the time signature (also called the beat), which is in a constant pattern. In 4/4 time, it is the 1, 2, 3, 4 count that each measure has.

tempo—This is the speed of the music, the beats per minute.

rhythm—This is the pattern of long and short notes in the music.
