Explanation:
In addition to the most common type of pulmonary emboi (thrombotic), there are three other types that can occur: air, fat, and septic. When these emboli become lodged or pass through the pulmonary arteries, blood flow is stopped to the distal vasculature, prohibiting the oxygenation of blood.
