Explanation:
In order to properly assess the oculovestibular reflex, patients must have their head of the bed elevated to at least 20 degrees. This reflex is tested by inserting a cold water stimulus into the ear. The absence of the reflex is a potential identifier of brain death, but this test is only one component of a brain death examination and not an independent identifier.
