Carotid endarterectomy


Explanation:

A carotid endarterectomy is a procedure done to remove vessel-occluding plaques. After the plaque is removed, a stent is placed in the vessel to maintain blood flow to the distal tissues. This procedure is recommended in greater than 60% of carotid artery stenosis cases.
