The word of is a buzzword for multiplication. The words times, twice and thrice also indicate multiplication.

Here, you need to find 0.50 of 12, so it would look like this:

\[0.50 \cdot 12 = 6.00\; \text{or} \;6\]

This makes sense because 0.50 is the same as \(\frac{1}{2}\) and \(\frac{1}{2}\) of 12 is 6.
