Dimensional analysis is the technique of including all units in calculations and showing that, through arithmetic operations, the units cancel out to leave an answer that logically matches the physical event described in the problem.

For example, when asked to compute a total cost, the answer should evaluate to a cost amount; when asked to compute a velocity, the answer should evaluate to a distance per unit time.
