Count the total number of decimal places in the numbers being multiplied. The number of places in the answer should match this.

In some cases, when you do the multiplication, you may get some trailing zeroes in the result before placing the decimal, such as 1234500. These zeroes count toward the number of places in the answer. If the answer needed 4 decimal places, it would be 123.4500. However, in decimal numbers the trailing zeroes are not reported, so the final answer would be 123.45.
