A comma (,) creates a brief pause and usually separates grammatical units, such as clauses or items in a list.


Explanation:

An example of commas within a list: “The most popular sports were soccer, football, and volleyball.”

An example of a comma (+ a conjunction) separating two independent clauses: “The most popular sports among the men were soccer and football, but the women preferred volleyball and tennis.”

Remember that a comma is one of the most commonly used punctuation marks, so research full lists of comma usage before taking the PSAT/NMSQT exam.
