Parallel structure occurs when the same grammatical form is repeated within a sentence, usually within lists.

An example of parallel structure: “I love chores like cleaning the kitchen, walking the dog, and mowing the lawn.”

An example of non-parallel structure: “I cleaned the kitchen, was walking the dog, and will later mow the lawn.”
