Explanation:

There are four phases of wound healing:

  1. the homeostasis phase (vasoconstriction, thrombin formation, platelet formation, and fibrin mesh formation)
  2. the inflammation phase/lag or exudative phase (pain, swelling, edema, phagocytosis of wound debris for infection prevention)
  3. the proliferative and granulation phase
  4. the maturation phase (continued development and maturation of the skin over the wound, which may last up to 2 years)
