Each medication will have a list of conditions (pregnancy, organ dysfunction, etc.) of which you need to be aware prior to administering a medication. While you are not expected to know the contraindications for every medication, you will need to have a reliable and trustworthy resource available (such as a physician’s desk reference) to ensure that your patient does not have any contraindications to the prescribed medication or therapy.
