HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act)

HIPAA protects information such as a patient’s name, birthdate, social security number, health diagnoses and treatments. It is the nurse’s job to ensure this information is only given to essential personnel who are directly involved in the patient’s care.
